Quality

One of the many things that I thoroughly enjoy about my Instructor, Choong Jae Nim C. S. Kim, is his desire for quality. On many occasions, I’ve been in his class with Masters and Black Belts and we didn’t get past choon bee (ready stance) for about ten minutes.

His desire for excellence comes out in his teaching and through his personal demonstration of how to preform Tang Soo Do. Many of you have not had the privilege training with him yet, so here are a few tips I have learned under his direction.

SLOW DOWN
He constantly reminds us to take our time and do it right. There is no race with quality. Be the the turtle.

BE MINDFUL
Don’t let your mind wander during class. Stay focused and in the moment. It will take discipline, but through consistent effort it will pay off.

OBSERVE
When your Instructors demonstrate skills, watch carefully. Listening is very important, but watching is even more important. I’m always in awe by the amazing example my Instructor provides me.

We all enjoy quality people and things in life. Let’s take the necessary steps to help improve our personal quality by slowing down, being mindful and observing. Aristotle was right when he said, “Quality is not an act, it is a habit.”File May 23, 1 10 49 PM

This Week’s WOW (Word of Week) – Fear

One of my biggest fears growing up was dogs. I love dogs now, but when I was knee high to a grasshopper, I would stay away from dogs like the plague.  My fear stemmed from a horrible experience at age 3. While petting a dog, I end up getting bit several times.  My fear kept me from enjoying the connection with these loyal animals. Finally, my parents helped me overcome my fear by getting me my own puppy. Now our family has enjoyed bonding with dogs and my fear is gone.

Do you have a fear that’s stopping you from enjoying life? A lot of times, fear stems from the unknown. Start learning about what you fear, become knowledgeable in that subject. You may not overcome it, but you can create respect and understanding.  If you overcome your fear, you will have a new sense of confidence. Don’t let life pass you by because of fear.

Have you heard of ELDOA?

What Is ELDOA?

The ELDOA method is an innovative form of exercise developed by world-renowned osteopath Dr. Guy Voyer. ELDOA exercises consist of a series of specific postures aimed at relieving pressure and increasing blood flow around particular joints or spinal segments. This technique is a highly effective way to reduce pain, increase circulation, and improve posture, balance, and spine health.

We offer ELDOA classes at our dojang on Sunday (2pm) and Wednesday (11am).  Contact Cyndi Jolly for pricing and availability at 850-712-3799.

There will be no ELDOA class on Sunday, March 17 & Wednesday, March 20.

Let’s Help Our Neighbors in Need

This Week’s WOW (Word of Week) – Compassion

Last week was such a roller coaster on the gulf coast. We are so glad that all of our families are safe. Our community dodged a major bullet.

However, we are feeling the pain and suffering of our neighbors in the Panama City and Mexico Beach area. To act on our word of the week, we are collecting the following items: Diapers, Feminine hygiene products, Socks, Toothbrushes, Underwear, Plastic storage containers large and small, Toiletries, Baby wipes, Contact lens supplies, Plastic cups/plates/containers and Prepackaged non-crushable snacks.

All items collected will be given to the PPD, who will be getting the items to the victims.  Thank you in advance for your compassion for those in need.

PTSDA Instructors Attend ITF Conference (Pittsburgh, PA)

October 5-7, 2018 – Masters and Black Belts from the PTSDA Karate traveled to Pittsburgh, PA to train with Grandmaster C.S. Kim at the ITF Instructor Conference and testing.  Under the watchful eye of the Grandmaster and the Technical Advisory Committee, the participants trained for several hours to ensure that their technique was of the highest quality.

Following the seminar, Master Chris Joiner, Kendall Chancellor, Andie Gibson and Adele Gibson did their re certification exam.  They all did a wonderful job.  According to Chris Dufour, “Being a Master or Black Belt at our school means that you have more responsibility not less.  I’m so proud that our advanced students embrace this philosophy of being the example. ”

Everyone walked away from the event with a feeling of family, community and more practice is needed.  Keep alert to the ITF website for future federation events that you could participate.
